What does “hypoallergenic” mean?

According to the FDA, “hypoallergenic cosmetics are products that manufacturers claim produce fewer allergic reactions than other cosmetic products.”

 

However, there are currently no federal standards for labeling a product as hypoallergenic. In other words, cosmetics that claim to be hypoallergenic may not actually be as safe as they lead consumers to believe.
